Your first ten minutes
Goodword works by knowing your network, so setup is mostly about connecting the places your relationships already live. Ten minutes now, and by tomorrow morning Goodword is briefing you like a chief of staff.
1. Connect your sources (5 minutes)
This is the step that makes everything else work, and it all happens in one place: Settings → Integrations. In order of impact:
LinkedIn is your professional graph. Connect it directly (it runs through a trusted infrastructure partner, with no credentials shared with Goodword), or upload LinkedIn's data export if you prefer.
Your workspace (Google or Outlook). Email and Calendar are the most critical sources for a comprehensive Goodword CRM: your correspondence becomes context, the commitments in your sent mail become reminders, and every meeting turns into relationship history.
Granola and your socials. Connect Granola so meeting notes file themselves and spoken commitments become reminders, and connect X and Instagram to round out the picture.
Opt into Text with Goodword so you can capture a note, a reminder, or a voice memo with a text from anywhere.
Have your network somewhere else? Export it as a CSV and upload it to Goodword (guide: Import your contacts from a CSV). An old CRM, a spreadsheet, an exported address book: it all comes in. In each integration's panel you can widen how far back Goodword imports: 1, 3, 5 years, or all time. Go wide. The contacts from three years ago are the ones worth resurfacing.
2. Tell Goodword what you're working on (2 minutes)
While Goodword builds your network in the background (importing your contacts and filling in role, company, and recent history for each one), tell it what you're focused on. The first time you land on your home screen, Goodword asks two questions: what are you focused on right now, and who are you trying to meet. Be specific ("raising a seed round in climate," "finding 2–3 fractional CFO clients in healthcare"), because your answers aim the whole system. (Priorities change? Tell Goodword in AI chat later and your goals update.)
3. Populate your Champions and Nurture groups
Goodword starts you with two special groups, and getting them right early is worth a few minutes:
Champions are the people who vouch for you: your references, your repeat referrers, the ones who say your name in rooms you're not in.
Nurture is the people you've recently connected with and want to turn into real relationships.
These two groups tell Goodword who you're closest to and which relationships you want to grow. Both have post watching turned on automatically, so you can keep up with what these people are doing: the raises, launches, and job changes worth reaching out about. Goodword also watches them for "warm paths," routes through people you trust to people outside your network who could help unlock an opportunity for you.
Goodword suggests who belongs in each. Confirm the right people and add anyone it missed.
4. Learn the rhythm
Goodword pays off as a short daily routine, and it starts with the digest:
Clear the digest. The top of your Data Hub flags the most important interactions since your last login. Go through them: take a quick note on who you've interacted with recently, and organize each one (add to a group, set a reminder, or dismiss). Two minutes, and you're caught up.
Debrief after real conversations. Text a voice memo or type two lines, and Goodword files the notes and sets the reminders.
The full routine, and how the features feed each other: Your daily Goodword.
5. Automate with Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini (MCP)
Connect the Goodword MCP and your whole network comes into the AI you already use. Ask for briefs before meetings, batch follow-ups after events, or research on anyone, all in plain conversation. The setup for each is on your Settings → MCP page (guide: Goodword MCP).
FAQ
How long does it take for Goodword to import and enrich my contacts? LinkedIn is quick, usually within a minute or two. Your other data sources can take up to an hour or two. Until they finish, not all of your contacts will be fully searchable yet.
Is my data safe? Your network is private to you, full stop. Notes are never visible to the people they're about. Integrations are read-only where possible, and you can disconnect any source (or remove any import and its outputs) at any time.
What platforms is Goodword on? Goodword works wherever you work: the web app (app.goodword.com), chat with Goodword by text or email, or your favorite AI tool (Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini).
What does it cost? See Goodword Plans & Billing for current pricing. Manage or cancel any time in Settings → Subscription.
Start with step 1, the connections. Everything else in Goodword is downstream of them.
